Personalized Coaching & Data Use Notice
This Personalized Coaching and Data Use Notice (the "Notice") explains how Mass in Motion LLC ("we," "us," or "our") uses your training, nutrition, sleep, recovery, body, and performance information to learn how you personally respond and deliver Personalized Coaching directly back to you.
This Notice supplements our Privacy Policy, Consumer Health Privacy Notice, and Terms of Service.
1. What is Personalized Coaching?
Personalized Coaching is an integrated capability in Mass in Motion designed to continuously identify narrow, reproducible, within-athlete relationships between your specific exposures (such as pre-workout meal timing, carbohydrate intake, caffeine cutoff, and recovery state) and your subsequent training performance and recovery outcomes.
Purpose: To analyze your information to understand how you individually respond and deliver personalized findings, response curves, and contextual coaching notes back to you.
2. Consent Separation: Coaching vs. Population Research
Mass in Motion maintains two separate, independent permissions:
- Personalized Coaching (This Notice): Authorizes Mass in Motion to analyze your data exclusively to generate individualized findings, response curves, and contextual coaching notes for your own coaching experience.
- Help Improve Algorithms (Optional Research Consent): A separate, optional permission that allows eligible information to be included in broader population research, model development, and statistical analysis to improve Mass in Motion for other athletes.
These permissions are independent. Agreeing to Personalized Coaching does not enroll your data in population research or broader model training. Declining Help Improve Algorithms does not prevent you from receiving Personalized Coaching.
3. Categories of Information Processed
To provide Personalized Coaching, Mass in Motion may analyze:
- Training & Exercise: Workout history, specific exercises performed, sets, repetitions, load, weight, Reps in Reserve (RIR), Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE), session type, workout completion, running and endurance data (distance, duration, pace, heart rate), program context, and training load.
- Nutrition & Timing: Foods, meals, calories, macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fats), relevant micronutrients, exact meal start and finish timestamps, pre-workout and post-workout timing windows, caffeine intake and timing, and hydration data where logged.
- Recovery & Readiness: Daily readiness scores, fatigue, muscle soreness, recent training load, recovery metrics, and subsequent performance.
- Sleep: Sleep duration, sleep timing, sleep schedule consistency, and relevant authorized sleep metrics.
- Body & Performance: Body weight, weigh-in timing, estimated one-repetition maximums (e1RM), top-set performance, pace-at-heart-rate relationships, and performance decay metrics.
- Derived Information: Training-response patterns, nutrition-response patterns, meal-timing relationships, recovery characteristics, sleep/performance relationships, response curves, individualized estimates, learned ranges, and confidence estimates.
4. Disclosure of Automated Statistical Analysis & Machine Learning
Mass In Motion may use automated statistical analysis, including machine-learning methods, to identify patterns and relationships in your information for the purpose of providing Personalized Coaching to you.
These methods evaluate within-athlete historical data to discover dose, timing, and context relationships that support your training and recovery.
5. Deterministic Programming Authority
Personalized Coaching may identify patterns and relationships in your data, but machine-learning systems do not independently generate your workout prescriptions. Mass In Motion’s deterministic programming algorithms remain responsible for exercise selection, sets, repetitions, loads, progression, running prescriptions, and scheduling. "ML learns. Algorithms program."
Personalized findings do not directly alter programming decisions, safety checks, deload rules, or injury constraints. All workout programming decisions remain under the authoritative control of Mass in Motion's deterministic programming engine.
6. Where Personalized Findings Live
Mass in Motion organizes learned insights within a single coaching system:
- Coach Learning Profile ("What Your Coach Has Learned"): The permanent, categorized knowledge library in your profile where all durable learned relationships (organized into Training, Nutrition, Recovery, and Sleep) are stored and maintained.
- Coach’s Notes: Contextual delivery of relevant learned patterns directly on the workout or recovery screens when you need them most.
7. Finding Accuracy, Evolution, and Retraction
Personalized findings are data-dependent and evolve as you log more workouts, meals, and recovery data. If a historical relationship is no longer supported by recent evidence, it will be retracted or marked as expired. Personalized findings reflect historical statistical observations, do not guarantee specific outcomes, and do not constitute medical advice or diagnosis.
8. Withdrawal and Data Management
You may manage or withdraw your consent to Personalized Coaching at any time in the app under Settings > Privacy & Data > Personalized Coaching.
Upon withdrawal:
- New Personalized Coaching processing is immediately paused;
- Active personalized findings are suppressed and removed from display;
- Individual calibration state, feature caches, and response model parameters associated with your account are deleted or cleared from active systems; and
- Your deterministic workout generation, logging, and core app features remain fully functional.
